THE CALL

ree

OPENING THOUGHT – CALLED BY NAME

2 Timothy 1:9 – “He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done, but because of His own purpose and grace.”

💬 Ask yourself: When you hear the word calling, what comes to mind?Do you think of church roles, or can you see it applying to your everyday life?

👉 Transition: Calling isn’t about a position — it’s about belonging. Before God ever called you to do something, He called you to be someone — His.

⚒️ SECTION 1 – WHAT IF MY CALLING LOOKS “NORMAL LIFE”?

Colossians 3:17 – “Whatever you do, in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.”

💬 Point:Every calling is sacred when it’s surrendered. God doesn’t separate the “spiritual” and the “secular” — we do.The kingdom needs people in classrooms, boardrooms, kitchens, studios, and job sites.

📖 Examples:

  • Joseph: worked in government but carried integrity.

  • Lydia: ran a business but opened her home for ministry.

  • Luke: practiced medicine but used his gift to tell the gospel story.

  • Daniel: worked in politics but stayed faithful in prayer.

  • Priscilla & Aquila: worked a trade but discipled leaders.

💬 Ask yourself: Where has God placed you that might seem ordinary… but could actually be your mission field?

👑 SECTION 2 – CARRYING HIS NAME WELL

💬 Ask yourself: What does it look like to carry His name well — at work, at home, in your creativity, or your relationships?

Exodus 20:7 (NKJV) – “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.”In Hebrew, “take” (נָשָׂא / nasa) means to carry or bear. The commandment isn’t just about speech — it’s about carrying God’s name on your life in a way that honors Him.To say “I’m His” but live opposite His character is to use His name emptily — to wear the badge of His kingdom while betraying its values.

💬 Point:This isn’t just about speech — it’s about representation. To “take His name in vain” means to carry it emptily — to claim His name but not reflect His nature.

💬 It’s like saying you’re related to the King, but acting like a tyrant. You’re carrying the crown insignia, but not the King’s heart.

⚖️ SECTION 3 – TRUSTING GOD WITH THE FUTURE

Proverbs 3:5–6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”Hebrews 11:8 – “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called… not knowing where he was going.”

💬 Point:You don’t need the whole map to move — just enough light for the next step.Faith means obeying before you understand.

💬 Ask yourself: Where do you feel pressure to have it all figured out — and how might God be inviting you to trust Him in the not-knowing?

🧱 SECTION 4 – CALLED TO BE FAITHFUL

1 Corinthians 4:2 – “It is required of stewards that they be found faithful.”

💬 Point:Calling is a gift — but faithfulness is how we prove we value it.God doesn’t measure success by size or status — He measures it by stewardship.

💬 Ask yourself: What does “being faithful where I am” look like for you this week?(Encourage practical answers: show up on time, serve with joy, honor commitments, etc.)

🌍 CLOSING REFLECTION – REPRESENT THE KING

2 Corinthians 5:20 – “We are Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us.”Matthew 5:16 – “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

💬 Closing Challenge: You may not have a pulpit, but you have a platform — and that’s wherever your feet are today.Your work, your family, your art, your friendships — that’s your ministry field.Represent the King well. Carry His name with honor.

GROUP TAKEAWAY

Being called isn’t about standing on a stage — it’s about standing firm in your faith wherever you are.You are called. You are trusted. And you carry His name.
